Personal

My new PC rocks. It may not have the dual-core 4400 CPU I was hoping for, but the 3800 is doing a grand job at 20,000 baht less. And, I was lucky enough to pick up a nice 17" Philips LCD screen too for about 7000 baht less than I thought it would cost. Plus a couple of smaller savings on the other parts of the actual PC, meant I came home with some new toys and enough change to pay some bills and keep us rolling for a few more weeks.

While in Bangkok, I managed (only just because of the bloody traffic!) to meet with a famous and respected name from the IT and open source world, and discussed the state of open source in Thailand, and ideas on how we can accelerate it’s take-up. It looks like I may be spending some time helping them achieve their goals faster, which at the end of the day are the same as Golder Software Systems Ltd.

And, it doesn’t look like Golder Software Systems Ltd has much to fear for the future either, as there are currently now 5 customers with paying work vying for it’s attention, and a couple of prospective clients too that are interested in smaller websites. Unfortunately, until I can find some a decent Thai techie and get them up to speed, there’s only me to work on the various projects. That’ll all keep me busy until at least the beginning of next year. I’m hoping to be in a position soon to get a Thai techie on board, up to speed and working on stuff to ease the load, as soon as I’ve worked out how much will definitely be coming in, and how much I can afford to pay them.

But, in the meantime, there’s only one person I know of capable of doing the jobs I’ve committed to and that’s me. And my trusty new workstation :)
