GPE needs love
Old blog post recovered from 2005
Personal

I rsync’ed a load of my day-to-day folders onto the flash card for my iPAQ H5450 the other day. A moment ago I was trying to show a diagram to a friend using the iPAQ.

The first problem I encountered was that there isn’t a decent file manager. Everything is application-centric, instead of document-centric. I had to open a (/the) image viewer, gpe-gallery, and select a directory to view. Where’s the file manager?

Second problem, the image viewer only deals with directories, not with individual files. The image I wanted to view is in a directory full of images, and it insists on thumbnailing them all first. And it crashes shortly after starting that. This app needs rethinking (and simplifying) a bit.

Anyway, it’s all to easy for me, laying here in my hammock, listening to MP3s, sshing into stuff over the wireless from my iPAQ. The basic text editor I’m writing this blog with seems to work very nicely. I can even edit source code over NFS from my laptop or X-Box, and build it. I guess I should find time to build the GPE base checkout and trying helping out with code instead of whining.

I b0rked GNOME ViewCVS by CVS updating it for James Henstridge. Hopefully, he’ll be able to help me to fix it too :-)

In other news, got sunburnt today (face, nose, forearms) due to riding the scooter to Bang Saphan and back to take care of a few things. Som nom naa!
